Changeable Speed Limit Sign

A changeable speed limit sign is a speed limit sign that displays the speed limit digits electronically using LEDs. Whereas the text "SPEED LIMIT" is permanently printed on the metal traffic sign, the digits showing the legal speed limit are electronic and can be easily changed based on time or other conditions.

Changeable Speed Limit Signs in School Zones

A school zone (or business campus) may have different speed limits based on school hours or the school calendar. A changeable speed limit sign's internal timer can be programmed by time of day, day of week, or even over a year to include a summer schedule. In this way, the changeable speed limit sign can display a low speed limit when school is in session and be set to a higher speed limit at other times so as maximize efficient traffic flow. The changeable speed traffic sign can also be set to turn on and off.

Maximize School Zone Safety with Violator Alert Radar

While a changeable speed limit sign can display the current speed limit in bright, clear LEDs there is an additional level of safety available—violator alert radar. Adding Violator Alert Radar to a changeable speed limit sign enables it to measure the speed of oncoming traffic. When a vehicle's measured speed is significantly greater than the displayed speed limit, the traffic sign will flash the speed limit LEDs to call the driver's attention to the fact that the vehicle is traveling and at an unsafe (and illegal) speed. This provides a strong signal to the driver to reduce speed immediately.

Two Models of Pole Mounted Radar Speed Signs From IDC

Information Display Company offers two pole mounted changeable speed limit sign models; CSL-1520F and CSL-1820F. The primary difference between the two traffic signs is the physical size of the speed limit display. The CSL-1520F is recommended for areas with speed limits up to 35 MPH or 55 KPH. The CSL-1820F has an 18-inch LED display and is for use in areas with higher speed limits.
